5 Things You Need To Know About Breathless Cabo San Lucas

Thinking about taking a vacation to Cabo? I have visited Mexico many times including several times this year, but this was my first time in this area.  I have been wanting to stay at Breathless since I first heard about it and finally got a chance to visit recently.  They also have locations in Punta Cana, Riviera Cancun and Montego Bay.  Expect music and fun. Even the security guards say "Welcome to the Party"

5 Things You Need To Know About Breathless Cabo San Lucas

1. It has an AMAZING location. If you are like me and like to walk around town, you are right on the Marina with many bars, shops and restaurants circling the water moments away. Famous places like Cabo Wabo or Mandala are not too far from Breathless with a variety of other night spots. There are also spas, tours and street performers around. Or just go jogging, as many people were doing day and night...just to make me look bad, I think. If you get off the waterfront and avoid some of the big name places, restaurants, spas and shopping all become more reasonably priced. I love resorts in the action, like the Royal Playa Del Carmen, and this one is now on my list of places to suggest when I have like minded clients.

2. Even the lead in rooms at Breathless have everything you may need. The bathroom is stocked with enough toiletries that you can come in empty handed (at least a man with a receding hairline could). The walls are bare (sorry art lovers), but the bed is cozy, the bathrobe welcome and the slippers helpful on the hard floor. There is no bath, but the shower does anticipate you having company. I may have stayed alone, but still lit the incense provided in the loo out of courtesy. They do need to work on laundering their pillows but there were 6 on the bed so was able to find one that had a clean pillowcase. Also no plug by the work desk which is a tad silly for a newly built hotel.

3. You have Unlimited Connectivity . A tablet in the room makes getting info on the resort very easy. You can order your 24 hour room service or book a spa treatment right from it. Via the AMresorts app (the parent chain), you can also call North America at no cost. The blessing/curse of my job is that I typically work from wherever I am so that comes in handy. Funny enough, I had clients book Breathless Punta Cana while I was here.

4. Enjoy unlimited a la carte dining including a la carte breakfast - which is not typically offered in many all-inclusive resorts. The Nook Coffee shop was my main haunt but the Xhale Lounge (accessible to folks in the right room categories) was a nice spot as it had many fine tequilas to enjoy and often delish snacks. Due to my sleeping patterns I missed dinner and really wanted to try the Lebanese Kibbeh restaurant as I have never seen that at an AI and I do love both mixed grills and falafel. Let me book you there so I can get your take on it. I felt the buffet was small for breakfast so may get tiresome on a long stay, but you could still go over to Bites for A La Carte breakfast. No wristbands here, which makes me very happy! I did not enjoy my 'chipotle' chicken/turkey burger by the beach as there was no sauce of any kind and it took ages. I did hear some quibbles about the dining from some of the other guests but need to go back to give you my own personal opinion as the rest of my dining was lovely. Fortunately, margaritas by the pool were excellente and were refilled before I even asked...hence sleeping through dinner. The truth comes out!

5. The Breathless brand theme is "Welcome to the Party." That is exactly what the very first security guard I encountered said to me. While the marketing may give it a risque look, it is not a 'lifestyle' hotel like a Hedonism or even Temptation but they do have djs playing by the pool in the daytime and a rooftop party at their own Purple Lounge along with other special events. I did see the entertainment crew looking for recruits for pole dancing lessons and the rooftop pool permits folks to reduce their amount of swimwear a bit.  As the resort is small (under 140 rooms) it may make the party hard to get too busy as many folks may prefer to visit the night spots in town but if you are with the right group of friends, I am sure you can take it over.  International DJs do play here and may help to draw a crowd. They offer bachelor/bachelorette packages and it certainly is a good setting for one of those occasions. I saw complaints about pounding techno music playing all day when I read TripAdvisor before coming down. As a fan of pounding techno music, I knew that those folks had no idea what they were talking about and suspected that at best there was pounding house music and zero techno. All I heard was smooth house beats and a bit of 90s hip hop which is a fitting soundtrack to the pool and patio in the sun. To hear actual pounding techno music, check out www.techno.fm when Live From Hackney is on.
