A Day Trip to Toronto: Ripleys Aquarium

Sometimes I am so busy dreaming of all the amazing places across the country and the world I tend to forget what we have so close to home.

The other day, Rich and I had to venture in to Toronto for a work related matter (which was amazing!) and decided to make a day of it.

After our meeting was through, we decide to venture a few blocks over to do a little shopping (adventure travel related of course) and check out the TIFF situation.  I am not one to get star struck so the pushing and gawking got old very quickly for me.  That being said, I did find that the outdoor entertainment and general feel in the area to be very energizing.   We got to see some great music entertainment and people watching was at a peak.  It is definitely worth going and having a look.

Once we had explored, all that we had desired to see, we headed down towards the iconic CN Tower.  The Ripley's Aquarium had been suggested to us, but we were a little skeptical that they would be open at dinner time on a Saturday night.  To our amazement they were open until 11pm that night.  That was lots of time!

I am so happy that we decided to do this!  It was truly very well done!

The admission cost is $30 each.  We spent 3 hours there!  It was well worth every penny.
There is at least one website out there that is offering a 50% off coupon.  We were warned that it is fraudulent and has no affiliation whatsoever to the Aquarium.  Please be very careful if you come across an offer like this.

The Aquarium was set up in such away that you started out exploring the Great Lakes.  How fittiing for how close we were to Lake Ontario!  I was amazed at some of the fish that swim below me as I paddle my paddle board through the water!  It opened my eyes and gave me an appreciation for the expansive underwater world that we live so close to!

The Aquarium has set up different focal points around their main tank.  Some of the focuses included sharks, jelly fish and Stingrays.  I have to admit the Jellyfish display was mesmerizing.  I could have spent hours there watching them float.

The stingray tank had a diver show at 715pm.  A diver entered the tank to feed the stingrays.  It was an amazing way for people to see a stingray close up and watch them in thier enviroment.  There are so many different type of rays.  I have been very lucky to go and swim with the rays in Grand Cayman so I was very well versed on their habits and especially their stinger!

Rich's favourite part was the sharks!  We actually had to double back to go through it a second time!  The main tank actually has a few different types of sharks and the way they have the observation area set up is incredible.  There is a glass tube that winds through the tank that has a "people mover" that you step on.  This allows you to gaze in all directions around you without thinking about walking or holding up other people.  You could very easily lose your self as you searched for all the different species of fish around you.

If you haven't planned for a day in Toronto, let me know when you are ready.  I know of a great China town tour and a Brewery History tour as well!
We could pair it all up and make quite a weekend out of it!
