Welcome Home From VEGAS Baby!!! 5 Truths and Myths

If you know me at all, you probably know that Vegas was the last place on earth that I had ever intended to go.  An opportunity came about that I couldn't possibly refuse, as a couple of good friends of ours were getting married and we were invited!

I had a fantastic time in Vegas and would like to share a few Myths and truths with you that cover some misconceptions that I have had or that I have come across in my years as a travel consultant.

Enjoy and remember that I love feedback!  If you think there is something we need to add to this, please let me know.  I can always write a follow up and add in your suggetions!

#1) Myth.... It's too hot in Vegas in August.  Was it hot in Vegas while we were there?  Yes, there was an incredible warmth that I felt as soon as I got off the plane.  The only way I can describe it, is that it felt like I had a warm blanket wrapped around me. The heat was in no way as hard to handle as our hot and humid summers in Southern Ontario.  You do need to be careful if you are heading out hiking in the desert, an early start first thing in the morning is best.  The good thing about the heat is that it gives you a great excuse to lounge by the pool and have some downtime in the afternoon after a busy day!

#2) Truth... There really is something there for everyone.  As I am an avid outdoors lover, I couldn't believe how much I fell in love with the desert!  I would go hiking there every day if I could.  I do intend to go back and do some more. Maybe even for a few days trek.  We travelled with a group of 28 of us and I think we all found something we loved.  Food/hiking/shopping/Art....

We had quite a few Foodies in our group.  They hit up a few of the famous restaurants in the area but I am pretty sure there were more on their list!  Here are a few of them below.

#3)Myth... There is a lot of free stuff in Vegas.  This is a myth!  In fact I found it to be the exact opposite.  Vegas is probably the most expensive destination that I have been to.  That is unless you find out when and where all of the happy hours are offered.
That is when you strike gold!

A couple of tricks... Plan your main meal of the day to be between 3pm and 6pm.  That is when you fill find the 2 for 1 drinks and heavily discounted meals.  If you can make it until 1am then the 2 for 1 drinks are generally available again until 3am.

If you are looking for free entertainment, we were hard pressed to find it along the main strip.  You have the odd resort performances you can stumble upon like Mirage Volcano eruption or the Treasuer Island Pirate Ship but we found that when we headed out to Fremont Street we found what we were looking for!  Street performers and Vendors.  Be sure not to miss an evening strolling around downtown Las Vegas.

#4) Myth.... Vegas is a family destination.  This is a Myth and I was astounded with the amount of people who think it is ok to bring their children here.  I hate to write anything controversial but I really feel that Vegas is NO place for kids.  Vegas is a Disney Land for Adults.  Even as a parent, if you are that liberal with your children (allowing them to see such sights) it is totally unfair to the other adults around you enjoying what Vegas has to offer.

#5) Myth.... Weddings in Vegas are cheesy Elvis weddings in chapels on the side of the Las Vegas Strip.
So many jokes were thrown around leading up to this trip amongst our group of friends.  You can just imagine the descriptions that they came up with... Elvis preforming the ceremony....  a small little chapel with slot machines for every guest.... bright lights and slinky dresses.

When in fact the wedding that we got to attend was probably one of the most romantic ceremonies that I have ever been to. It was located at a quaint, charming winery in the middle of the Mohjave Desert.  The ceremony took place in the lush gardens surrounded by vineyards.  It was quite a contrast to the dry brown desert that we drove into to get here.  The ceremony was then followed by a wine tasting and hor d'oeuvres.  Once the photos were all taken, the meal was then served and in my opinion, the best that we had while in Vegas! A unique experience!

So the big question that I am being asked by all my friends and family at home is:
Would I go to Vegas again?
My answer: Yes I think I would.  It's all about the people you travel with! I haven't laughed so hard in my life.

Best wishes to Nancy and Antonio.
Thank you for letting us to be apart of your amazing day.
